The recall affects two specific lots of Fi dog supplements sold directly to customers and through Amazon and Chewy. Pet owners are urged to stop using the products immediately.

Fi, a New York-based pet supplement company operated by Vet Plus, Inc., is recalling two dog supplement products because they may be contaminated with Salmonella, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The affected products were sold directly to consumers as well as through online retailers, including Amazon and Chewy.

Products Included in the Recall

The FDA said the recall is limited to two products and specific lot numbers:

  • Fi Calming Supplement for Dogs — 180 g
    Lot No. 26118
  • Fi 8-in-1 Formula Supplement for Dogs — 180 g
    Lot No. 26159

The potential contamination was linked to an ingredient supplied to Fi’s manufacturer. Production has been suspended while the company investigates the issue.

Salmonella Can Affect Dogs and People

Salmonella can pose a health risk to both animals and people. Dogs that become infected may develop symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, bloody diarrhea, fever, lethargy and stomach discomfort.

Some dogs may experience only mild symptoms, including reduced appetite or fever. Importantly, dogs can sometimes carry and spread Salmonella without appearing sick.

People can also be exposed by handling contaminated products or by coming into contact with infected animals or their waste. Human symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever. In some cases, the infection can lead to more serious complications.

What Pet Owners Should Do

The FDA advises anyone who purchased one of the recalled products to stop using it immediately.

Consumers should keep the product in its sealed container and dispose of it in household garbage. Pet owners should also thoroughly wash their hands after handling the product or anything that may have come into contact with it.

Fi said it is contacting customers who may have purchased the affected products.

Customers with questions can contact Fi at 1-888-434-3647, available daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern time, or by email at support@tryfi.com.

Consumers and veterinarians can also report suspected adverse events or product quality concerns to the FDA’s Center for Veterinary Medicine.
